About Shiraz Club of Victoria
The Shiraz Club was founded in the late 1960s by a group of like minded people with an interest in wine and specifically in learning more about wine.
The name of the club was not intended to reflect an interest in only Shiraz wines but rather as a modern name for the club. At that time varietal naming of wines was only just beginning to become common, previously Shiraz wines were just as likely to be called Hermitage or Burgundy (neither of which are now allowed for Australian wines).
The club continues to meet regularly and has a number of well attended annual events. Club meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month and will typically include a guest speaker who presents a number of wines for tasting and discussion.
